Evidence that you have attained Foundation competences.? If you have successfully completed the two-year Foundation training programme you will be able to have a copy of your Foundation certificate and supervisors report in your portfolio. ? If you successfully completed 12 months of UK SHO training in approved posts this is accepted by PMETB as having given you the Foundation competences. Letters of appointment and assessments confirming satisfactory completion of posts should be included in your portfolio.? If you have not completed a Foundation programme or 12 months of UK SHO training in approved posts, you need to provide evidence in your portfolio of attainment of the Foundation competences that are listed below. The CEM curriculum details how these General Medical Council (GMC) principles of ?Good Medical Practice? relate to the specialty of EM and may provide you with further ideas of evidence you might compile for your portfolio. We appreciate that candidates who have not completed the formal Foundation programme are unlikely to have 2 years? workplace based assessments in their portfolio however credit will be given to trainees who provide some appropriate documentation.1.0 Good Clinical Care. The foundation curriculum describes the clinical areas where competence in clinical care is required. In particular competence is expected in areas of acute illness such as airway and breathing problems, circulation problems, neurological emergencies, psychiatric and behavioural problems and the management of pain. In addition to workplace assessments, any certificates of competence, copies of examination certificates, logbooks with summaries, critical incidents, complaints with responses, results of personal audits can be included in this section of the portfolio.1.1 History taking, examination and record keeping skills1.2 Demonstrates appropriate time management and decision-making1.3 Understands and applies the basis of maintaining good quality care and ensuring and promoting patient safety1.4 Knows and applies the principles of infection control1.5 Understands and can apply the principles of health promotion and public health1.6 Understands and applies the principles of medical ethics, and of relevant legal issues2.0 Maintaining Good Medical PracticeEvidence might include details of any study leave taken, certificates of attendance at courses or meetings, evidence of self-directed learning, e-learning activities and copies of personal development plans.3.0 Relationships with Patients and CommunicationIn addition to any multi-source feedback that has been completed for you, letters of thanks, feedback from other sources and any other documents that comment on your relationships with patients could be included in this section of your portfolio.4.0 Working with ColleaguesMSF or other documentation that is evidence of your ability to work well with colleagues should be provided.5.0 Teaching and TrainingEvidence might include a teaching programme that you attended, copies of handouts, lecture plans, feedback from and evaluation of teaching activities, experience of training others and appraisal documentation.6.0 Professional Behaviour and ProbityA signed statement of your probity might be as follows:?I declare that with regard to my professional practice as a doctor there are no issues of probity (convictions, issues of honesty and professional integrity or conflicts of interest) or that any such issues have been declared?.7.0 Acute Care.
